“Game Shots at Game Spots at Game Speed”
What a wonderful concise message to send to our players during practice when they are shooting around. This goes for all sports. How many times do we see kids arriving to practice early and taking shots that they will never take during a game? In basketball it’s the players chucking up deep 3-pointers when in games they can’t score in the paint. In lacrosse it’s the players shooting from beyond the restraining line or cranking up from 5 yards out. How many times do we see inexperienced coaches create shooting drills that do not mimic real game situations? Coaches, guess what? 95% of shots are contested so make sure you create shooting situations in practice that include some defense.
If your players are not taking Game Shots at Game Spots at Game Speed, then they are just wasting valuable practice time. Watch the players who do take Game Shots… those are probably your best shooters. Play the way you practice!
