Football Pads are NOT Just for Football: Incorporating Toughness Drills into Basketball

Playing through some level of contact is a big part of many sports. How often do we see players getting knocked off the ball because there was contact and that player lost their balance or wasn’t ready to absorb the hit? Helping players develop that toughness and ability to play through contact should be part of a coach’s playbook.

There is a new series of videos in the Kudda basketball section that demonstrate some specific drills to help teach how to play through contact. Using the blocking pads, coaches can set up authentic drills where players either have to absorb the hits or contact while dribbling, shooting or getting rebounds. Varying the location and number of pads being used can replicate various parts of the game. Adding in boxing gloves can also add more contact as players can work on holding the ball while being slapped with defenders wearing boxing gloves.
